Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform patient education including patient/family teaching.
• Participate in outreach events to identify eligible members.
• Assist with outreach strategies and document established contacts.
• Create educational instruction materials to promote oral health wellness.
• Independently treat healthy patients under general supervision of dentist and refer for an exam annually as required.
• Under general supervision of dentist, deliver direct patient care using established dental hygienist procedures.
• Develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients.
• Utilize patient screening procedures including medical history review, dental charting, and periodontal charting to determine appropriate treatment
• Document dental history or chief complaint of patient.
• Record and report pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff, as
appropriate.
• Perform routine treatment procedure such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides, and related.
• Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients.
• Set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.
• Assist in preparation of patient care areas, and in the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process, as required.
• Prepare reports and assist as required with patient reception, telephone calls, routine triage, and other office duties.
• Perform discharge planning under general supervision of Dentist.
• Participate in maintaining a clean and orderly workspace and reception area.
• Perform at the highest level of license and privileges, at the direction of the Dentist.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Job description subject to review and may change based on business necessity.
Position Expectations
• Maintain excellent attendance; perform all duties in a timely manner; attend all meetings as scheduled and/or directed by supervisor, Directors, or CEO.
• Respect confidentiality at all times.
• Full-time PHDHP is required to work a minimum of one evening per week.
• Must meet 20 hours of continuing educational requirements as instructed by the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; this includes:
a. Five hours in public health-related courses
b. Three hours related to administration of local anesthesia, including pharmacology or another related course
c. Up to three hours in communication skills
d. Two hours child abuse recognition and reporting

Qualifications & Skills
• Valid Pennsylvania state Dental Hygiene license
• Valid Pennsylvania state Public Dental Health Hygiene Practitioner license.
• Minimum two years’ experience in dental hygiene clinical setting
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (strongly preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
• CPR certified
• Proficiency in office-based applications: EMR (experience with Athena a plus), Microsoft
Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook), and Internet use is required.
• Customer Service Skills (patient, empathetic, responds to patient’s emotional state).
